The Hague celebrates the success of The Ice Cream Man, which starts screening at the Sedona International Film Festival and the Phoenix Film Festival from 23 February. The film, which was partly filmed in The Hague, is receiving international recognition for its storytelling and cinematography.
The Ice Cream Man, an award-winning short film recounting the powerful and moving story of Ernst Cahn, an Amsterdam ice cream parlor owner and the first person in the Netherlands arrested and executed by the Nazis for resistance activities. Written and directed by Robert Moniot, The Ice Cream Man has already earned multiple prestigious awards and is currently a contender for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. The film vividly portrays Ernst Cahn’s heroism, which catalyzed the February Strike of 1941 in Amsterdam—the largest anti-Nazi protest in history. The film features scenes shots in the prison of The Hague and at the beach and in the dunes close to The Hague. The Red Carpet premiere of The Ice Cream Man was hosted at the American School of The Hague in December 2024.

About the producer Robert Moniot
Robert Moniot (pronounced Mon-Yo) is an American writer/director/producer based in The Netherlands. His first short film, THE DANCING COW, was purchased by Steven Spielberg. Moniot’s second short (and directorial debut), the satire PEARL HARBOR II: PEARLMAGEDDON, had its world premiere at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and was purchased by HBO. His first feature screenplay, ARMAGEDDAGAIN, was optioned by New Line Cinema. After leaving the business for an extended stint as a stay-at-home-dad, Moniot is currently developing THE BERLIN GAME, a WWII actioner about Bond creator Ian Fleming; BUCKINGHAM BOYS, a heist comedy; and SEVEN DAYS OF THE DRAGON, a cyber-attack thriller.
