28 January 2025 marks the official launch of "The Hague Road to Summit," a series of events leading up to the NATO Summit in June 2025. Running from 28 January until the end of June, the programme will feature a variety of activities across the city, bringing together local communities, international organisations, and policymakers.

Together with the local ‘Road to Summit’ programme, the launch of ‘NATO on Tour’ will take place to announce activities to promote the NATO in the Netherlands. Both programs will start 28 January 2025 during the 57th edition of the annual The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) in World Forum. This is a yearly simulation of the United Nations by 3200 students from 200 schools across 100 countries. This year, THIMUN will also simulate the NATO Summit of 2025. In this simulation, 32 students will take on the roles of NATO member states and work together to reach a joint final declaration. The start includes the launch of the official website www.roadtosummit.nl. Providing a platform for organisations to register their events and access the full programme.
About the ‘Road to Summit’ for The Hague
"The Road to Summit" aims to engage a broad spectrum of participants, including residents, students, international institutions, non-profits, and cultural organisations. The initiative seeks to promote peace and reduce polarisation by fostering open dialogue, reinforcing The Hague's role as the international city of peace and justice.
Just Peace Festival 2025: A Call to Action
The Just Peace Festival runs from 1 to 30 June. It is a collaborative, multistakeholder initiative organised by The Hague Humanity Hub, Leiden University and Spreeek, with the support of the Municipality of The Hague. Public events will focus on themes such as Peace & Justice, Democracy, Inclusion, (In)Equality & Diversity, Climate & Resilience, International Rule of Law, and (Cyber)Security. Some events will be open to everyone, while others will be by invitation only and featured in news updates afterwards.
THIMUN NATO Summit Simulation
From Monday, 27 January to Thursday, 31 January, the World Forum will host the 57th edition of the annual The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). This is a yearly simulation of the United Nations by students from around the world. A total of 3,200 students from 200 schools across 100 countries will participate. They will reenact sessions of the Security Council from a specific year or deliberations of other UN bodies.
This year, THIMUN will also simulate the NATO Summit of 2025. In this simulation, 32 students will take on the roles of NATO member states and work together to reach a joint final declaration. These students will also be present at the launch of the NATO-on Tour in the Netherlands. NATO-on Tour in the Netherlands.
About the 'NATO on Tour' Program
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence have taken the initiative for this tour, in collaboration with the Atlantic Commission, Clingendael, and The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS). The goal is to engage with a broad audience as possible about NATO and the national and international security issues.
To facilitate this conversation, the travelling programme will include various activities such as serious gaming (an e-sports tournament) by Defence, a mobile photo exhibition about NATO by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a theatre tour and educational programmes for secondary schools by the Atlantic Commission, as well as research and debates by Clingendael and HCSS. Other contributors include Haagsch College, Young Atlanticists, De Kiesmannen, the Children's Correspondent, The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN), Veterans in the Classroom, universities, colleges, and participating municipalities.

'NATO On Tour'
Together with "The Road to Summit," the "NATO on Tour" initiative will bring a series of interactive events and activities to cities across the Netherlands. The tour starts and ends in The Hague. Follow the Tour here.

NATO Summit World Forum
The summit itself will take place on 24 and 25 June 2025 at the World Forum in The Hague. The city expects to welcome 6,000 participants from all 32 NATO member countries plus 2000 journalists to report on the key security challenges and the alliance's strategic priorities. Because of the size of the summit, temporary buildings will be erected next to the World Forum.
