When Irish supergroup U2 put on their sell-out residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023, it made headlines around the world. The show involved spectacular visuals beamed around the venue’s vast spherical screen and wowed more than 19,000 spectators every night. But for most ordinary fans, this musical extravaganza was out of reach - both financially and geographically. That was, until one entrepreneurial Dutch fan contacted the Museon-Omniversum in The Hague to see if it might be possible to replicate the show (albeit on a slightly smaller scale!) back home in the Netherlands.
From educational dome to immersive concert stage
The Omniversum has been part of the educational fabric of the city for decades, with children raised on watching educational videos in its famous theatre dome with its immersive movie experience.
But this was a new challenge.
The team at Omniversum worked with Dutch tribute act U2Two who put together the exact same set-list as the real band had performed in Las Vegas. They engaged art students and designers from all over the city to recreate the extraordinary visuals at the Sphere, and even had a gospel choir to accompany some of the tracks.
The project was a year in the making, and at the end of 2025, the Omniversum played host to 17 sellout shows.
A venue with a legacy
Much of the success of the show was down to the dome and the role it has played in the lives of The Hague’s residents over the years. Many people spoke of how they had loved the immersive educational videos they had seen as children, and were now returning as adults, and bringing their own children to watch the new concerts.
The dome has previously played host to many acts from The Hague’s thriving music scene, always providing a memorable backdrop for new visual performances and pushing the boundaries of modern technology. But it has also been a valuable educational resource for the City’s children.
In 2022, Omniversum formally joined forces with the neighbouring ‘Museon’ science and culture museum, becoming the ‘Museon-Omniversum’, with its mission to blend education, collection and entertainment, while promoting a sustainable future and a better world.
